Whats Coming in 2020 (WordPress)

2019 was an excellent year for WordPress shifting its paradigms and modernizing its build process to bring WordPress inline with other competitors and third-party solutions. The thing I have always loved about WordPress is the open source software which enables developers and designers to realize business and creative visions while maintaining key features as a default (login, post types, users, and separation of frontend and backend).

In the later half of 2019 Gutenberg (WordPress visual editor)  really gained momentum in adoption and in development progress. The recent WordPress 5.3 update merged in multiple improvements and features designed as quality of life improvements to address some key shortfalls in the initial releases of Gutenberg. 2020 sees 3 major updates for WordPress 5.4, 5.5, and 5.6 which will further improve Gutenberg including a new navigation block (menus), block-aware areas, Gutenberg block directory/search, automatic updates, and thousands of issues identified by the WordPress team to improve the platform over the next year.
